Signal maps without invented boxes
How to keep path mapping honest when the product surface will not reveal every hop.
A useful map shows what you verified and what you could not see. Draw dashed lines for assumptions; solid lines only for evidence.
Name the decision the map supports. If there is no decision, pause before polishing diagrams.
Date every observation. Product UIs shift; dated notes keep handoffs sane.
